Request and venting

Hey guys. I just want for everyone to pray that nothing serious is wrong. My boyfriend hit his head at work today and became disoriented. He went to the doctor to be checked out. He has blurred vision (in his right eye I think) and is still disoriented and overall tired. They want to do a cat scan and he is just sitting in the doctor's office waiting on his work to give the authorization for the scan. Corporate is out until Wednesday and he is getting the run around. His boss acts like he just can't do anything. There has to be a procedure in place for something like this! I feel bad that I can't be there for him, I'm stuck at work. But if something happens to him because his work is delaying him getting the proper medical attention he needs... I'm going to be pissed!!

Hey Laura, I sure hope he is ok. If he got hurt at work, then it should be worker's comp and there should not be any question as to what to do. Most places just go ahead and do whatever needs to be done and bill it to worker's comp. I don't know the whole process myself, but from what I heard, they should just do what needs to be done and deal with the BS later. Which hospital/doctor did he go to? Keep us posted on how he is doing.

I hope he is ok. I used to work in workers' comp so let me try to explain what will probably happen. First if this is really serious, the dr should do the scan and bill it to his health insurance. Later his medical ins. will subrogate the work comp ins. Second, I dont think his employer will give the ok for this because there will be an investigation that will take place by the work comp ins company and if the employer agrees to the test they may be accepting liability for the work comp claim and I dont think they will do that before the investigation. So his best speedy bet right now would be to bill it to the ins and let them duke it out later. If he has a deductable or copay and a work comp claim is approved he can get reimbursed for it later.

I know this isnt what you want to hear, but it's in my experience how it will probably happen.

Make sure his work files a first report to work comp. If he became disoriented, he is not going to be thinking about what he needs to do to protect his rights.

Even if Corporate is out there is someone his supervisor can contact to find out what to do. I am sure everyone at the corporate office is not out for 2 normal work days. That sounds like BS to me. I work at the Corporate office for a large company and I can promise you there is someone there. It may not be the normal WC person but there is someone who can give information. What would they do if they had someone suffer a work related fatality for goodness sake?!

I do hope and pray he is alright. Keep us posted.

Laura please keep us posted on he is doing, I don't know much about workman's comp other than the times I've had to file it, and then when I got hurt, I went to the local ER, and it was just taken care of, no calling back to get permission to do anything.   BUT, with that being said, I'm NOT an insurance person, nor a human resource person, so I don't really know anything other than personal experience..  wow.. I'm rambling just to say, I don't know anything!

Bottom line, I do hope your boyfriend is doing better, and please let us know!!

Good morning guys. Sorry I couldn't post any updates last night. He isn't really doing any better... but not any worse either. They finally got his catscan. But by the time he got that done the doctor's office was closed. It took too long because the hospital lost the paperwork that was faxed by the doctor. His vision is still blurry and he gets nauseous when he eats. His head is still throbbing. I tried to get him to go to the ER last night but he refused. So he promised me he'd call the doctor today about his catscan.

And thank you for all the info requarding workman's comp.... he doesn't have health insurance so he was relying on what his work told him to do. Does anyone know if he is injured at work.... does workman's comp cover the hours of pay he missed at work?

Laura,

Workers Comp reimburses the first 7 days after he has been out for (I think TN is 14 days maybe 21 days) it's been awhile since I was in Work comp I switched to auto a couple years ago and now in title insurance. Make sure he keeps track of any out of pocket expenses including mileage as that is reimbursable for DR's appts. or his trip to ER no mater how long he is out of work and prescriptions anything related keep receipts.

Sorry I am not more help it really is determined by his employers policy.

I'm not sure what his employers policy is. But I can tell you it isn't effective! He's still in alot of pain and the doctor they sent him to yesterday hasn't returned any of his calls today. I'm trying to talk him into going to the ER. And at first he was ok with going. But now he is saying no, he doesn't feel like spending the evening in the ER. He just wants to go home and lay down. He's a very active person with high energy levels. Wanting to just lay down is not him at all. I hope it is nothing, but I'm still very worried.
